Continuity & Disaster Recovery
Eckerd is committed to a world-class BCDR capability. To support this, it has transitioned to a cloud first data center strategy. Eckerd has also migrated mission critical production systems to Amazon Web Services. These services are primarily housed in the Virginia data center but critical backups are maintained in the Oregon data center. Instead of using these locations as a backup or disaster recovery location, Eckerd has moved the production systems listed below to this location. This change in strategy eliminates the need for emergency fail over operations in the event of a campus closure. Access to some services may require connecting to the VPN.

Items to Consider
Faculty should review the Hurricane Guide as well as the Technology for Professors website for further guidance and online training and documentation.
Do you need to shift to online appointment scheduling?
Do you need to forward your office line to an off campus number?
Do you need to re-route faxes?
If you need to receive faxes, ITS can adjust the setup to have them delivered to an email address instead of the physical copier.
If you want to do this, please email itshelp@eckerd.edu and include your fax number/@eckerd.edu email address you want it sent to during this time period.
Important Reminders
When you are not using your computer, lock the screen.
Be careful with your email.
It may be tempting to send FERPA protected data or Protected Information via email. We provide secure ways to do this if needed. In the case of students, it is often easier to direct students to a location where they can securely view information. For instance, if you maintain grades in Banner or Moodle, direct them to those sites instead of emailing them a grade. You can also hop on a phone call or Google Meet with them to discuss protected information. This allows you to verify their identity before sharing information.

Watch what you print
Remember if you print something that has Protected Information, you need to properly secure it and prevent it from being lost when transported. You should also shred it if you need to throw something away.
Communication
